Repeat

The Repeat block asks the same set of questions several times. Use it when you need details for each guest, each child or each item, and you don't know in advance how many there will be.

What your respondent sees

The block itself is invisible. The questions inside it appear once for each pass, each with a number added to the question, such as "Guest name (Guests #1)", then "(Guests #2)". Every pass is checked and saved separately.

Connections

  • One input at the top.
  • Two outputs at the bottom: Loop Body (left) goes to the first question to repeat, and Next (right) goes to what comes after all the passes.
  • Chain the repeated blocks one after another from Loop Body. You don't draw a line back to the Repeat block.
  • A Payment block can't go inside the loop body. Put it after Next.
  • Blocks outside the loop can't use an answer from inside it, because that answer is different on every pass.

How to add a Repeat block

  1. Click Repeat in the Add to form list, or hover a block, click the + below it and choose Add Loop Block.
  2. Connect the block before it into the Repeat block.
  3. Click the Repeat block and choose an Iteration Count Type.
  4. Hover the Repeat block, click the + below it, and choose a block under Loop Body. Add more blocks after that.
  5. Connect Next to the block that follows the loop.

Settings

SettingWhat it doesOptions / default
TitleThe block's name. It is used in the repeated question labels, so pick something short like "Guests".Text. New blocks are named "Loop Block".
Iteration Count TypeWhere the number of passes comes from."Fixed count (Static integer)" (default), "Dynamic (From upstream number field)", or "Arithmetic block calculation".
Fixed Iterations CountThe number of passes. Shown for a fixed count.Whole number, 1 or more. Default 2.
Dynamic Source FieldA Number question whose answer is the number of passes. Only Number questions before this block are listed."Select number field…", or "No upstream number fields" until you add one.
Arithmetic block SourceA Calculation block whose result is the number of passes. Only earlier Calculation blocks are listed."Select an arithmetic block…"
  • The most passes any Repeat will run is 30, whatever number you set.
  • For a dynamic or calculated count: a negative number gives no passes, and a calculated result is rounded. The loop stays hidden until the number is answered.
  • If / Else blocks inside the loop are decided on each pass using that pass's answers.
  • A Repeat block can also set seats for a response limit. See Start.

Example: ask name and age for each guest

  1. Add a Number question "How many guests?" and make it required.
  2. Add a Repeat block titled "Guests" after it. Set Iteration Count Type to Dynamic and Dynamic Source Field to your question.
  3. From Loop Body, add a Short Answer Text question "Guest name" and a Numeric Input question "Guest age".
  4. Connect Next to your End screen.

If someone answers 3, they see "Guest name (Guests #1)", "Guest age (Guests #1)", then #2 and #3.

MessageWhat it meansWhat to do
Repeat block: fixed count must be at least 1.The count is 0 or empty.Enter 1 or more.
Repeat block: no source number field selected for dynamic count. No Number question is chosen.Pick one in Dynamic Source Field.
Repeat block: arithmetic source is not selected. No Calculation block is chosen.Pick one in Arithmetic block Source.
Dead-end loop. Ensure the exit path of the loop block "X" eventually leads to the Success Screen.Next isn't connected to an End screen.Connect Next.
"A" refers to "B", but "B" lives inside the loop "L" and only has a value per iteration.Something outside the loop uses an answer from inside it.Use it only inside the loop, or move it outside.
Answer is used but optionalThe Number question that sets the count isn't required.Click Make required.
